Full Body SunTek Paint Protection Film Wrap

We had a new client contact us that lives out of state. He had just purchased a brand new 2018 Porsche Macan in Florida. He wanted to make sure it was properly protected before it made the long journey home. Insert Kelley’s Detail. We recommended that he have the dealership leave the factory plastics in place. This request will reduce the amount of damage to the paint that is often caused by a dealership’s improper wash procedures. With less swirls in the paint, we can use less aggressive paint correction. This will help reserve the amount of clear coat on the vehicle. We had two full body paint protection film jobs in the studio, so we made call to a colleague out of San Antonio, Texas. Jay is a talented installer and friend and agreed to help us get the jobs done in a timely manner.

The Prep

After we removed the plastics and inspected the paint, we carefully washed using a pH neutral car shampoo. We used Iron X to decontaminate and remove all iron particles from the surface. The wheels were cleaned with a soft, synthetic wool brush. We did a Single Stage Polish (New Car Prep) to revitalize the clear coat and remove some light scratches.

The Full Body PPF Wrap

This client decided he wanted a full body SunTek paint protection film wrap. We used a combination of bulk (custom cut) film and pre-cut kits. The Porsche Macan hood is one of the hardest hoods to fully wrap because of the size of the panel. It is normally split into two pieces which creates a seam across the hood. The largest roll of SunTek Paint Protection Film offered is 60″ wide but the hood is over 61″. Our goal was to create a seamless install which required a large stretch so we were able to completely wrap the edges. This was definitely a two person job and isn’t recommended to try solo. We completed wrapping the rest of the vehicle in film leaving no paint unprotected. This client was left with full body protection and a 10-year limited manufacturer’s warranty to back his purchase.

The Sealant

We finished off the exterior by applying a spray sealant. It has a durability of up to 6 months. The sealant will increase UV protection as well as create a slick, hydrophobic layer on the film.

The Interior

We treated the interior with Swissvax Leather Milk. Enriched with Vitamin E, it will preserve the natural moisture of the leather interior without leaving a greasy residue behind.
